Abstract

The influence of feed type and feed quantity during early life stages of Clarias gariepinus on the subsequent occurrence of ruptured intestine syndrome (RIS) was investigated. Feed type related to live and dry feed, whereas feed quantities were set at 1 and 3 times the optimum feeding level of 8.4 g kg-0.8 day-1. Results indicate that feeding Artemia nauplii or low levels of dry feed before week 4 will significantly decrease the subsequent occurrence of RIS.
