Abstract
Turmeric is a plant used as an herbal medicine with many benefits and is easily found in Indonesia. Turmeric plants have curcumin compounds as a medical ingredient to inhibit the process of angiogenesis. The presence of angiogenesis inhibition can cause extravasation of nutrients and fluid in cells disrupted. The embryo development needs nutrition from the blood supply, disrupted due to decrease vascular permeability can cause an abnormality of the embryo development. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of turmeric (Curcuma domestica) rhizome simplicial on the anatomy of the chicken embryos. This study used 20 unincubated chicken eggs divided into four groups, the control group, the 2% DMSO group injected with 0.25mL 2% DMSO, the dosage 1 group injected with turmeric rhizome simplicial at a dose of 0.48 mg/g, and DMSO 2% as much as 0.25 mL, and the dosage 2 group injected with turmeric rhizome simplicial at a dose of 0.96 mg/g and DMSO 2% as much as 0.25 mL. All groups were incubated for 10 days at 38 °C. The parameters measured were embryo brain, and lung histopathology with the hematoxylin-eosin stained method, also the measurement of the diameter of the head, thickness, and length. The results showed that the turmeric rhizome simplicial gives a negative effect on the development of the brain, and lung microanatomy, also shortens the head diameter, body thickness and length.
