Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a complication during pregnancy characterized by high blood pressure and organ damage. The pathophysiology of this condition includes an imbalance of angiogenic agents and an increase in oxidative cytokines. Isoflavones, a type of phytoestrogen, play a role in inhibiting the PE pathophysiology. This systematic review aims to investigate the effects of isoflavones in treating PE. The method used to compile this systematic review follows the PRISMA guidelines. Databases used to search for relevant literature include Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Based on the inclusion criteria, 11 articles discussed the activity of isoflavones in PE prevention. Some isoflavone compounds identified include genistein, alpinumisoflavone, kraussianone-2, puerarin, and soybean, which is a significant source of isoflavones, all of which have shown activity in managing PE. The results revealed that isoflavone compounds significantly reduce angiogenic agents and inhibit inflammatory factors in the PE pathophysiology.
