Abstract

This study aims to see the influence of social media platform utilization on student learning interests (LI) and learning outcomes (LO) in the micro-learning instructional process context. The study was conducted at an Indonesian public vocational high school majoring in information technology. The subject matter used as the context in this study is computer networks subject. The method used is experimental research with the Randomized Pre-Test and Post-Test Control Group Design type. The control and experimental groups each consisted of 40 randomly selected students. LI data was collected by questionnaire, while multiple-choice items and performance tests collected LO data. This study showed that social media platform utilization significantly influenced LI (t(78) = 7.60; p<0.01; d= 1.70) and LO (t(78)= 2.36; p<0.01; d = 0.53) in the micro-learning instructional process context. The LI effect size (d = 1.70) exceeded Cohen's convention for a large effect (d = 0.8). The LO effect size (d = 0.53) exceeded Cohen's tradition for a medium effect (d = 0.5). This study has proven that using social media platforms in the learning process can significantly impact students' learning interests and outcomes. However, the implications for learning interest are greater than for learning outcomes.
