Abstract

A beam-column joint is a very important part of the reinforced concrete building structure. Shear failure is a condition prone to be experienced by beam-column joints, especially for non-monolithic beam-column joints. Shear failure can lead to the collapse of the entire construction. This article presents the results of research regarding shear tests on non-monolithic beam-column joints. Non-monolithic beam-column joints are made by installing pipes continuously from the outer edge of the column to the 5 cm limit at the edge of the column connected to the beam. This pipe functions as a duct for the longitudinal beam reinforcement, as well as reinforcement in the non-monolithic beam-column joint. The Casting of the column sections is carried out separately with beams. After the column is cast, the beam longitudinal reinforcement is fixed through the duct along the span of a beam. At the ends of the edges of the column, the ends of the reinforcing bars are anchored to the steel plate. The results of the shear strength test for non-monolithic beam-column joints are then compared with the shear strength for monolithic beam-column joints. The experimental results show that the shear strength of non-monolithic beam-column joints has decreased in performance against shear forces. However, by providing the pipe sleeve as reinforcement, the performance of this non-monolithic connection can be improved so that it has the same performance as the monolithic column beam joint.
