Robust Control using Sliding Mode Controller for SEPIC DC/DC Converter

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In a power electronics circuit, DC-DC converters handle a stable bus voltage as needed into a varying DC voltage. In many topologies of DC-DC converters, every topology has its benefits and weaknesses. The selection of these converters depends on the needs. SEPIC converters are able to regulate the output voltage by managing the duty cycle, and the DC voltage value can be greater or less than the source voltage. SEPIC converters can regulate the output voltage by managing the duty cycle; the DC voltage value can be greater or less than the source voltage. SEPIC converters are widely applied to electric power systems according to the identical polarity as the input voltage. The controller will compensate for the non-linear nature of this change. This study applies a sliding mode controller (SMC) to obtain the desired value and a more suitable response when given a disturbance. The three perturbations are defined by adjusting the source voltage, output voltage, and load resistor. The measured results compared by the PID controller are the voltage deviation and recovery time. The performances of SEPIC converters using SMC and PID are conducted in simulation. SEPIC converters using SMC have an impressive response to overcome disturbances than using a compared controller.
