Abstract
The use of antibiotics in poultry feed has been prohibited. Many studies have been conducted to investigate various biological activities of plants, including their immunomodulatory activities. The interaction between the immune response and diet is the focus of a strategic area of research to control pathogens and improve animal health. This study was aimed to identify the potential effect of red ginger powder as a feed-additive against salmonellosis in the broiler. The treatment groups were divided into C-(negative control), C+ (positively infected group without any treatment), T1 (positively infected group, treatment: 2.5% of ginger powder), T2 (positively infected group, treatment: 5% of ginger powder). The parameters observed in the research were based on the histopathological results of the caecum organ and the number of macrophage cells. The results of statistical analysis showed that the highest number of inflammatory cells was found in the CP group (p <0.05). The infiltration of macrophages in the caecal wall, followed by deeperosion at the mucosal layer, is the result of an inflammatory response caused by invading bacteria at this site. According to histopathological observations in the normal group, there was no specific lesion led to inflammatory condition. Furthermore, the histological feature of the red ginger powder treatment groups (G1 and G2) also indicated a small lesion accompanied by less inflammation and cell death in the infected areas compare to CP (positive control) group.
