Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the readiness of contractors to implement BIM and identification of the dominant barriers of implementing BIM in the company. This study was sequentially conducted in three main phases: A literature review to identify the readiness criteria and barriers of BIM implementation; data collection, were collected using a quantitative questionnaire survey targeting 330 contractor companies' members of Gapensi (Indonesian Contractor Association) in East Java Province as respondents; and data analysis, analyzed by calculating the CRI and the average index. The results show that CRI values on average from 3 different qualification companies are 48,75% (less ready). The most critical barriers to implementing BIM are lack of software ownership, too high-cost investment, and lack of knowledge related to BIM. The findings of this study will provide knowledge of BIM and its regulation and help to develop more constructive strategies to resolve the barriers. This study suggested the use of open-source BIM, and the introduction of BIM in engineering courses, or BIM formal training held free. Further research can be carried out in the future related to an in-depth investigation into the current knowledge in the construction organization related, and the technical detail of barrier solutions.
