Potentials for integrated flats with the centers of economic, transportation, and education activities (Case study Marunda flats in North Jakarta)

It is urgent to enact integrated policies for some relevant infrastructures due to some considerations of the sustainability of the urban system. The urgency emerges as the strategy applied to increase the intensity of land use has not been run in accordance with the Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development Program. The purpose of this study was to define the potential of simple flats which are integrated with the center of economic, transportation, and education activities. The study was conducted at the Marunda Simple Flats. Method of research was the literature study to obtain secondary data used in the study through the study of the institutional official documentations as well as scientific literature that have relevance to the focus research problems. Map of satellite imagery was used to observe the land use, road networks and transportation nodes. There were several findings need to be concerned: first is the process of adaptation to the citizens with the new life pattern in the slum area especially living at flats; second is the distance to the center of economic activity. The distance between the flats with the regional economic center in Pluit Area is inefficient and ineffective; third is the lack of transport facilities may cause the Marunda Flats are isolated and difficult to develop; and fourth is the education facilities coverage is not in accordance with the Indonesian standard BSN-SNI 031733-2004. In short, Marunda Flats are considered very less livable.
