Abstract
Carbon emissions become a global concern since they are believed as a major contributor to climate change and global warming. In order to mitigate the problem, numerous studies on carbon capture technology have been conducted. Membrane-based technologies have gained a great attention for carbon capture due to the important advantages such as low cost, low energy requirement, flexible in operation, and modularity. Besides, the membrane can be integrated with another process, combining the benefit of both processes. In this paper, the membrane-based carbon capture technology is reviewed, including gas separation membrane and hybrid membrane process, i.e., membrane contactor. The development of superhydrophobic membrane which is an emerging approach for carbon capture is also discussed. Finally, prospect and challenges of membrane-based carbon capture technology are pointed out, especially for a case in Indonesia.
