Abstract

Stelechocarpus is a genus belonging to the Annonaceae family that grows in the Asia-Pacific region. As a plant that is not well known to the public, conservation efforts are needed because the Stelechocarpus has many benefits in pharmaceutical and cosmetics. One of the strategies to support conservation efforts is DNA barcoding, which has little information for the Stelechocarpus. This study aimed to evaluate chloroplast loci that can be used as DNA barcodes for the member of genus Stelechocarpus using in-silico approach. This research was conducted in-silico by extracting chloroplast loci sequences including rbcL, trnL-F, matK, psbA-trnH, and ndhF which are available in the NCBI database. The results showed that only 18 sequences of chloroplast loci were obtained from two species of Stelechocarpus genera, including S. burahol and S. cauliflorus. The psbA-trnH and ndhF loci indicated that they can be used as markers for genetic diversity studies on S. burahol. On the other hand, the rbcL, trnL-F, and matK loci indicated they could be used for genetic diversity studies on Stelechocarpus genera.
