Abstract
Increasingly hot environmental temperatures and less comfortable indoor temperatures are the impacts of inappropriate choices of building roof materials. An effort to mitigate this problem is by using a cool roof. This study was conducted through a field experiment by applying cool roof paint to the metal roof of a building in Malang, Indonesia. Field measurement results show that the cool roof paint application can reduce the maximum surface temperature above the metal roof by up to 6.6ºC and under the metal roof by up to 6.3ºC, as well as the maximum indoor air temperature by up to 0.8ºC at a height of 120 cm above the floor and up to 1.2º C at a height of 50 cm below the metal roof.
