Abstract
The motorcycle emissions have significantly contributed to reducing the air quality due to its fast growth for years in the developing countries. Today in Indonesia their amount has reached to more than seven million. The PM2.5 emissions have been measured in high concentration. The PM2.5 emissions give adverse effect to health. The aim of the study is to develop a filtering system for motorcycle based on thermoradiation principle. The filter is made of an aluminum arranged as a net and placed a certain position in the exhaust. The efficiency of the filter is calculated by the reduction ratio of the PM2.5 concentration emitted from the engine before and after passing the filter. The PM2.5 concentrations are measured at the distance of 40 cm from the exhaust after the engine is turned on for 5 minutes. The result shows that there are temperature increases at the different positions of the filter in the exhaust. The concentration of PM2.5 decreases when the filter is placed. The efficiency of the filter in reducing PM2.5 concentration depends on the position of the filter.
