Conceptual framework of studentification impacts in Malang City, Indonesia

The high demand for educated workers in various jobs has created opportunities for secondary school graduates to advance their studies. Increased intellectual and expertise is the basis for better employment opportunities and higher salaries. Students studying in another city need a place to live and supplies. Housing needs are often not provided by the college where they study, and therefore they have to rely on structures around campus owned by individuals or families. A large number of students around campus cause socio-cultural, economic, and physical changes, a condition referred to as studentification. The purpose of this study is to create a conceptual framework to map the impact of studentification which affects the development of the area around the campus in Malang city. It uses a literature review to obtain scientific information support and secondary data. The results of this study may help to create a studentification model in the city of Malang and serve as a reference for the development of similar models in other college towns in Indonesia.
