title = "Characteristic of nitrided austenitic and martensitic stainless steel by RF-DC plasma nitriding",
abstract = "Austenitic and martensitic stainless steels have hardened by using RF-DC Plasma Nitriding. Nitriding was performed at varied nitriding temperatures: 400°C and 480°C for 8 hours. A mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen gasses was utilized as a carrier gas with flow rate ratio of 7:3. Surface hardness of nitrided specimen was tested by Vickers microhardness, while microstructural analysis was carried out by utilizing X-Ray Diffraction Analysis. XRD analysis show hardening of the nitrided austenitic stainless steel is attributed by the precipitation mechanism at high temperature. However, at low temperature (400°C) it is attributed by solid solution. This hardening mechanism also observed in martensitic stanless steel.",
