‘Can't stop, won't stop: the doomscrolling scale Indonesia version’

The widespread use of social media for accessing news, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, has contributed to the emergence of a phenomenon known as doomscrolling. However, no validated instrument has been available to assess this behavior in Indonesia.This study aimed to examine the structural validity and internal reliability of the Indonesian version of the Doomscrolling Scale. A total of 502 social media users aged 18–40 years participated. Data were collected in 2025 using an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with JASP software. The results supported a unidimensional factor structure consisting of 15 items. The scale demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.939). These findings suggest that the Indonesian Doomscrolling Scale demonstrates acceptable foundational reliability and structure, making it aviable initial instrument for future research and digital literacy initiatives.
