Abstract
Colibacillosis is one of the most important infections in Indonesia’s poultry industry. Colibacillosis is caused by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) and causes airsaculitis, perihepatitis and pericarditis. Avian pathogenic Eschrerichia coli serotypes in which the most infected in poultry are O1K1, O2K1 and O78K80. Antibiotics have been widely used to eliminate E. coli infections in poultry farm in recent years. However, the high frequency of treatment with antibiotics cause resistance. This study aimed to find out the sensitivity of 5 APEC isolates to antibiotics. Five APEC isolates, O1K1, O2K1, O78K80, O157H7 serotypes, and unknown serotype were used for antibiotic sensitivity examination (amikacin, kanamycin, ampicillin, trimethoprim, and chloramphenicol) in Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA). Sensitivity profiles against 5 different antibiotics of 5 APEC isolates were determined by using the disk diffusion method according to the Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI). The conclusion, antibiotics sensitivity of amikacin, kanamycin, ampicillin, trimethoprim, and chloramphenicol was 80%, 80%, 0%, 100%, and 100%. Therefore, most of the antibiotics in this study were used for colibacillosis treatment, except ampicillin.
