Abstract
This paper discusses a new analytic solution that predicts temperature profiles for welding processes. The analytic solution was verified using the finite element model which showed a good agreement. For quasi-steady state, the proposed analytic results agree very well with the quasi-steady state solution by Rosenthal and the prediction of the finite element method. For transient state, the obtained solution was verified through the finite element method. Thus the analytic solution developed in this paper can provide a general solution which can accurately predicts temperature profiles in welding for both transient and steady states.
