Abstract
The volcanic lake area in North Maluku, which includes Lake Laguna and Lake Tolire in Ternate, Lake Paca in Tobelo, and Lake Duma in Galela (North Halmahera), as well as Lake Ranu in West Halmahera, has high ecological and economic potential. The background of this research is based on the importance of integrated management through agroforestry to maintain ecosystem balance while improving the welfare of local communities. The purpose of the research is to analyze the area’s potential, vegetation distribution, and opportunities for the development of agroforestry-based agricultural products, forests, and ecotourism. Research materials and methods include field surveys, vegetation data collection, and descriptive analysis of the potential of timber, non-timber, and agricultural resources. The study found that agroforestry in the volcanic lake area of North Maluku comprises 11–23 plant species, with heights of 4–21 m and diameters of 15–127 cm. The highest volume was found in Myristica fragrans (5.55 m3) and Artocarpus heterophyllus (5.31 m3) while the lowest was in Musa paradisiata (0.036 m3). In addition, the beauty of the volcanic lake landscape supports the potential of nature-based ecotourism. The development concept aims to integrate ecotourism and agroforestry, focusing on conservation, plant diversification, and the empowerment of local communities. In conclusion, the volcanic lake area of North Maluku has strategic opportunities as a model of sustainable agroforestry management that supports the economy, ecology, and tourism.
