Abstract
Exhaust emissions from motor vehicles have become hot issues due to their toxicities and their effects on health adverse. To reduce the emission, people have to develop a filtering system. This study developed a filtering system based on electrostatic principle and taken an advantage on motor battery for the electricity to reduce the PM2.5 exhaust emissions. The filter consists of a set of aluminum plates as the electrodes (anodes and cathodes). These plates were embedded in an acrylic frame and connected to the motor battery. The gap between the plates was varied namely filter 1 (F1), filter 2 (F2), and filter 3 (F3). The filters were characterized as the efficiency defined as the reduction ratio of the PM2.5 concentration in the smoke before and after the pass. The PM2.5 concentration was measured by a Digital Dust Monitor. The efficiency of the filter was in the range of 8% to 42 % depending on a number of the filter gap.
